Ed Westfall was that rare NHL star who made four All-Star Games as a penalty killer. The man nicknamed “18” (his jersey number) helped lead the Boston Bruins to two Stanley Cup Championships in the early 1970’s, and then was the first star and leader of the expansion New York Islanders. Despite being a grinding checker/penalty killer, Westfall chipped in with 232 career goals. Upon retirement, he teamed with Hall of Fame announcer Jiggs McDonald on the Islanders TV crew, including their four straight Stanley Cups in the 1980’s. He was inducted into the New York Islanders Hall of Fame in 2011.
