NFL Europe was a laudable experiment, a fusion of American and European football. That included the jerseys, a unique blend of soccer and football uniform traditions. In 1997, the Barcelona Dragons defeated the Rhein Fire, 38 – 24, to claim their only NFL Europe championship. Alas, the league didn’t last and teams like Barcelona, Rhein, London, and Amsterdam are consigned to the dustbin of history. Until now. Quarterback Jon Kitna wore #7 for the Dragons before heading to the NFL, and this exemplar is a spot-on reproduction from that championship season, and a league that’s now a mere footnote in the history books.
