The 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics were the XXIIIrd Olympiad of the modern Olympics era. Los Angeles hosted more than 140 nations – Russia boycotted the Games – in the most commercially successful Olympics of all-time. It didn’t hurt the popularity of this Olympiad that the home country, the United States, led the medal count with 174 medal stand appearances.
