Bangladesh, east of India, is a South Asian Third World country of 165 million, roughly the size of Russia. Originally part of India, Bangladesh gained its independence from Pakistan in 1971. The Bank of Bangladesh issued this two taka note – based on ancient silver coins dubbed takans. The front left-side of the note contains the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation. The picture of the National Monument is printed in light color in the middle of the front side of the note. Bangladesh maintains a low profile on the world stage, making this a very desirable note for collectors.
