Given world events, Chiang Kai-shek remains one of the most captivating leaders of the 20th century. From 1928 to 1949, Chiang was the leader of the Republic of China and attempted to modernize the largest country on earth. During this period, he was challenged by Chinese warlords, the invading Japanese Empire, and a Communist insurgency led by Mao Zedong, or Chairman Mao. After leading China through World War II, Chiang’s nationalists were defeated by the Communists and fled to the island of Formosa, now known as Taiwan. There, he served six terms as President until his death in 1975, helping Taiwan to become an economic power and constitutional republic. He is the longest non-royal leader in China’s history, and is remembered with a beautifully sculptured, authentic 12” action figure produced by Sculpture Time in the early 2000’s.
