It’s not for nothing that Muhammad Ali was known as “The Greatest.” The three-time champion could “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee,” as he danced and punched his way to three heavyweight world titles, an Olympic Gold Medal, and 58 victories, 37 by knockout. Lyle Alzado wasn’t a professional boxer, but an All-Pro defensive tackle for the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Raiders, winning a Super Bowl title while recording 112 career sacks during his stellar career from his inside defensive line position. On July 14th, 1979, the two fought an epic eight-round boxing match at cavernous Mile High Stadium in Denver, to the delight of 20,000 fans and an NBC-TV audience. The fight wasn’t scored and neither pugilist was knocked out, but ringside observers gave Ali the nod. This pennant was sold exclusively at Mile High Stadium concession stands on the summer afternoon of the fight. It measures 5 3/4” in length and features the two fighters’ names and the event logo. Ali collectibles are some of the most highly desired in the collecting world, and the pennant is ultra-rare.  This was a unique event, the charismatic heavyweight champ vs. the slugging football star.  We’ll never know for sure who won the fight, but we do know that this is a very special sports collectible that is an absolute winner.
